It’s refreshing to hear a clean YouTuber curse every now and then. After years of hiding behind a “family-friendly” brand, LaurDIY (Lauren Riihimaki) is now showing a more authentic side of herself. She made a conscious choice to do more mature content. She explained, “When I was 19, it was okay to create content for 15- and 16-year-olds. But when I was 20, I didn’t want to make videos for 16 year olds. I don’t want to make videos for children. So it’s so nice to get in touch with women my age. And the conversations and connections you have are just a lot more authentic. “

Her new podcast, Wild ‘Til 9, with friend and tech entrepreneur Jeremy Lewis, covers topics such as: dating and relationships, mental health, and the experiences of two 20 year olds living in LA.

She recently also shot the second season of Craftopia on HBOMax, which starts in autumn 2021. It is a craft competition show. This season introduces adult contestants, bigger prizes, more challenges, and a new approach to targeting viewers of all ages.

How she got the job is pretty incredible. Riihimaki said, “There was a Warner manager whose daughter, who was 16 or 17 years old, chose me to host the show. This girl is literally why I have this show. “

She is also exploring other sources of income. The majority of influencers rely solely on branded stores and YouTube AdSense revenue, but Riihimaki tries to go beyond that.

She said, “Branding deals and branding collaborations will always be a major revenue driver for developers, but the opportunity to build deeper connections with brands that I am involved with in the form of angel investments has been of great interest in the past year.”

She has invested in several startups including: Kinship, Community and Lolli. Some influencers “invest” in startups by simply adding their name to a project in exchange for shares in the company. But Riihimaki invests real money. Your average investment is between $ 25,000 and $ 50,000.

She is also interested in crypto and has invested in Etherium, BAT, Cardano (ADA), Doge, and SHIB.

Riihimaki has reinvented herself over the past two years, from a family-friendly YouTube creator to a multimedia creator, angel investor, and entrepreneur.

While most family-friendly YouTubers age as they age and the demo stays the same, Riihimaki created an authentic version of herself that should allow her to stay on top for years to come.
