# 1: Find your top engagement times in your Facebook Page Insights
When it comes to the best time to post on Facebook, it is important to think about the time zones of your Facebook Page’s followers.
Fortunately, Facebook Page Insights provides a lot of useful data about your site’s performance, including demographics about your audience and how people respond to your posts. You’ll also see when people saw your page and how they found it, which can help you set your top posting times!
To get insights into your Page’s followers, open your Facebook Page and click the “View All” button next to “Insights” (you can also find your insights on the “Manage Page” toolbar).
The left side of the screen is where you’ll find the different sections of your Page Insights, while the right side shows graphs and charts for those sections.
First, open the “5 Recent Posts” section on the Insights page. This will open a graph showing when your followers are online (don’t forget to be aware of the time zone!):
If you hover over the days at the top of the page, you can see which are generating the most engagement on your page:
You can also open the Page Views section of Insights (the number of people who viewed your page) and sort by country or city to see which locations are generating the most views:
Facebook also tracks the reach and engagement of your Facebook posts. This can be a great resource for finding out when your fans are most likely to engage with your content.
In your Page Insights, click Posts and scroll down to All Published Posts:
Here you can sort posts by likes, comments, and approvals to see total engagement by type for each post.
Pay close attention to the Published column – this is where you can find out when each post was published on your Facebook Page.
Do you see trends? You have to manually compare the release times (there is no way to sort this data). However, this is another great way to find out when your target audience is online and most likely to be engaging with your content.
NOTE: Be aware that your engagement numbers may be a bit skewed as you improve your Facebook posts!
# 2: Check Your Facebook Audience Insights
Facebook Insights into the audience is designed to help you plan and optimize your Facebook ad campaigns – but it’s also a great resource for finding your audience’s locations and top time zones!
Unlike Page Insights, which examines interactions with your page (i.e. likes, comments and shares), Audience Insights examines your current or potential customers across Facebook, including their demographics, interests and behavioral data.
Just open your Audience Insights dashboard and choose if you want to get insights into everyone on Facebook (all Facebook users) or just people connected to your Page. (We recommend the second option as you want to learn more about your existing Facebook audience!).
In the Audience Insights dashboard, you can narrow down the audience characteristics you want to target on the left (e.g., location, age and gender, and interests), while the right shows graphs and charts of your audience.
If you already know which country the majority of your Facebook subscribers are from, you can put that information in the Location field. If you are not sure, just leave it blank.
Now click on the Location tab.
Here you can see where most of the potential fans live (including their top cities and countries) and what languages they speak.
This information is extremely helpful in determining your top time zones! For example, if you learn that a majority of your Facebook subscribers are based on the west coast of North America, this is a good indication that you should experiment with different post times in the PST time zone.
# 3: Use Creator Studio to see which locations are busiest
Among many other features, Facebook’s Creator Studio also includes an Insights tab that helps developers better understand their target audience and know how people interact with their content.
It’s not nearly as verbose as Page Insights or Audience Insights, but it has its uses.
For example, if you open the Video Insights tab and navigate to Audience, you can find a breakdown of your best (most engaged) audiences on Facebook, including location.
If you find viewers from a certain country engaging with your video content, it can be a signal to post in that country’s time zones.
# 4: experiment with booking times and measure your progress
Once you have a clearer picture of where your audience lives and what top time zones they have, it’s time to test different release times and measure your progress!
To do this, we recommend creating a spreadsheet to keep track of how much engagement you get if you post at different times on different days.
Start by choosing five different times during the week.
For example, if you find that your followers are most active between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. EST, Schedule your posts to appear at 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 a.m.
In your spreadsheet, keep track of how many likes and comments each post received, as well as the date and time you posted it.
For the following week, switch the timing of your posts for each day. For example, if you posted at 5:00 p.m. on Monday in week 1, you would post at 6:00 p.m. on week 2.
It may take a few weeks, but you can use this information to choose the best days to share with specific networks based on your own audience, as well as the times that are best for receiving traffic on those specific days.
