SEO is Turning into a Questions and Answers Game

I read an article from my buddy the other day and it had an interesting trend.

14.1% of all search queries on Google are in the form of a question.

Here is the breakdown within the United States:

  • Like – 8.07%
  • What – 3.4%
  • Where – .88%
  • Why – .82%
  • Who – 0.6%
  • Which – 0.33%

Since we have over a billion keywords in Ubersuggest worldwide and we already have a question section, I thought it would be fun to see what it would look like worldwide.

As a heads-up, it was a little tricky for certain languages ​​as people don’t always start a question with certain words like “how”.

Nevertheless, we were able to collect some interesting statistics because we have data from 2017.

And 2020.

What do you notice when you look at the data?

In general, the overall percentage of query-based searches has increased. In 2017 it was 13.41% and in 2020 it was 14.52%.

The big change, however, was that the number of keywords grew steadily every year. From 7.68% in 2017 to 8.61% in 2020.

I suspect that a larger part of the world population has gained access to the internet due to the mass adoption of mobile devices. More of them are interested in finding solutions to their problems. Hence the increase in the search for “how” -related terms.

But this is where things get interesting …

Questions are easier to evaluate

Although questions make up around 14.52% of searches worldwide, there is something interesting to note.

They are much easier to evaluate.

On average, you need a domain rating of 58 to rank in Google’s top 10 for a two-word keyword, while you only need a domain rating of 39 to rank for a question-related term.

Blogs with 100,000 visitors create question-related content

We did an analysis of blogs with over 100,000 monthly SEO visitors. If we look at the top 100 sites, this is where you can see what part of their traffic is from questions.

It’s an important ingredient for a popular blog. Plus, you don’t need as many links, so you won’t be as high as a domain authority to rank.

Unless you are searching for question-related terms, this is what you should consider. And that’s how I would do it if I were you.

Go to Ubersuggest and enter one of the top keywords for your website. You don’t need to rank this term, use it for ideas.

For, one of my main keywords when it comes to my blog is “digital marketing”.

As soon as you click “Search”, a page will appear that looks like this:

I want you to click on “Keyword Ideas” in the navigation on the left.

Uberuggest presents you with a list of thousands of potential keyword ideas.

Now click on the navigation link “Questions”. It should be just above the list of keyword ideas.

Then you’ll be presented with a list of question-related keywords that you can target.

These keywords aren’t as popular as headings, but there are plenty of them that you can use to create content. All you have to do is put more and more keywords into Ubersuggest and look at the suggestions on questions.

As you build content for hundreds of them over time, you will find that the traffic adds up.

It’s not that competitive, new websites can easily be ranked for question-based content.

Just look at Quora. It’s a page that is all about questions and answers.

According to Ubersuggest, around 141 million visits are made by SEO every month. That’s a lot of traffic from creating question-related content.


If you haven’t created any question-related content, this is the place to start.

It’s a big part of my traffic and a strategy we use for all of our clients in my advertising agency.

The more detailed you are told about your content, the better you will be.
