Reactions to President Joe Biden’s new gun control urge have divided Americans on social media. On Thursday afternoon, many users went to Twitter and other platforms to give their opinion on the matter. It was seen in a variety of hashtags.

The president announced a series of executive measures and legislative proposals on gun control on Thursday. In a speech in the Rose Garden, President Biden described gun violence as a “public health crisis” and argued that his administration’s actions would not violate the second amendment.

“Nothing I am going to recommend will in any way affect the second amendment,” said Biden. “These are incorrect arguments suggesting that these are the second amendment rights that we are talking about.”

He continued, “But no constitutional change is absolute … From the beginning you couldn’t own a weapon that you wanted to own. From the beginning there was the second change, certain people were not allowed to have weapons. The idea is so just bizarre to say that some of the things we recommend are against the constitution. “

Several high profile gun control activists attended the event, including Brady United President Kris Brown and former MP Gabby Gifford (D-Ariz.).

“We should also ban offensive weapons and high-capacity magazines in this country,” added Biden. He also called for the repeal of the Legitimate Arms Trade Protection Act (PLCAA), which prevents gun manufacturers from being sued for crimes involving legally sold guns.

The reactions to Biden’s appeals have been as divided as the nation is politically and perhaps even more so. Many proponents of the second amendment asked the president to be wrong on some of his points. By early Thursday afternoon, there had been more than 26,000 tweets related to the second change.

“Joe Biden is either lying, never bought a gun at a gun show, or both,” wrote Mark Meadows (@MarkMeadows), former White House chief of staff for President Donald Trump. He responded to President Biden’s suggestion: “If you go to a weapons show, you can buy what you want – no background check.”

Gun safety instructor and Free Beacon gun policy reporter Stephen Gutowski (@StephenGutowski) added, “Private sales can and can take place at gun shows, but so can sales from licensed dealers. It’s an old misleading lie to say that guns shows are a special exception when what you are actually complaining about is the sale of used guns in the private market in general. “

Republican Rep. Ken Buck of Colorado (@BuckForColorado) was among those who shot back at this and other Biden government policies.

MP Buck added, “Joe Biden wants to take away your guns and trample on the 2nd Amendment.”

Rep. Mike Rogers (@RepMikeRogersAl) (R-Alabama) was one of the defiant in his words, writing, “They do not take the guns of law abiding citizens or our right to bear arms, Mr. President.”

Rep. Mike Waltz (@michalgwaltz) (R-Florida) was quick and to the point in his statement, “Gun ownership is a civil right.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (@GregAbbott_TX) didn’t even wait for Biden to deliver when he tweeted, “This is what I’m looking for in Texas – a law that defies all new federal gun control laws . It will make Texas law. ” Second Sanctuary State amendment. Legislation in the Texas House and Senate is moving. I look forward to signing it. “

This tweet from Republican Governor Abbott had been retweeted more than 1,800 times and was liked almost 8,300 times by Thursday afternoon.

A string of memes also circulated Thursday mocking Biden’s calls for more gun control.

Gun control support

Many leftists expressed support for the president’s efforts to push for stronger gun control, shared with the hashtag #EndGunViolence, but there have also been calls for him to take matters further.

“President Biden has just signed an executive order to protect our communities from the constant threat of gun violence. It’s a good start – but much more needs to be done. We must now ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.” wrote Rep. Diana DeGette (@RepDianaDeGette) (D-Colo.).

Florida Democratic MP Stephanie Murphy (@RepStephMurphy) loudly supported the president’s actions. “I applaud @POTUS for taking decisive action to stop the deadly drumbeat of gun violence in our communities. Now the Senate should pass laws that we have already passed in the House to keep the most dangerous weapons out of the hands of the most dangerous To keep people. “

It seems certain that President Biden’s move will not lead to the unification of the country in the way he hoped, if anything could only widen our divide.
