WASHINGTON, DC – NOVEMBER 7: Signs are held as thousands gather in Black Lives Matter (BLM) Square … [+]
On Saturday, when numerous news organizations named former Vice President Joe Biden the 2020 presidential race winner, the comment began to appear on social media. Perhaps the most poignant response came from former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who is now calling for a cure.
Bush (@JebBush) tweeted, “Congratulations to President-elect Biden. I have prayed for our President for most of my adult life. I will pray for you and your success. Now is the time to heal deep wounds. Many count that will show you the way. “
The sentiment was shared by Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah), who tweeted, “Ann and I warmly congratulate President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris. We both know as people of goodwill and admiration that we pray that God may bless them in the days and years to come. “
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson (@BorisJohnson) also officially congratulated.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (@JustinTrudeau) was among the world’s liberal leaders to extend a friendly hand to Mr Biden. “Congratulations @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris. Our two countries are close friends, partners and allies. We share a relationship that is unique on the world stage. I look forward to working with and building on both of you.”
While India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) had a close relationship with President Donald Trump, he also offered his hand to Biden on social media: “Congratulations @JoeBiden on your spectacular victory! As Vice President, your contribution to strengthening ties between India and India The US has been critical and invaluable. I look forward to working closely again to deepen India-US relations. “
Tech pioneer and philanthropist Bill Gates (@BillGates) took the time to thank election officials in his tweet: “Congratulations to President-elect Biden and Vice-President-elect Harris. Thank you to the election officials and campaign workers who worked tirelessly have worked to ensure a record. ” The number of Americans could cast a ballot and make it count at such a challenging time for our country. “
Shorty D (@DunawayHayden) of the Smog Dog Diesel Apparel Company, who was a Trump supporter, also called for unity: “If Biden is president, he’s definitely my president. I’m not going to leave home because of this . ” Regardless of your thoughts, we will fight under the same flag and fly with the same bird. I will love my neighbor regardless of his opinion. “
Not their president
Unsurprisingly, many Trump supporters were vocal in their comments, but much of what they said contradicted the facts presented by the media. That included self-proclaimed “grassroots activist” Amy Mek (@AmyMek), who tweeted, “Joe Biden is not the President of the United States! The media is trying to stir up trouble. Donald Trump is declared the winner – if that happens, they will Media.” wants his violent followers to cause more chaos! That has always been her plan! “
Mek also called on those who wanted support, including Narendra Modi and Jeb Bush, but some went further.
Lavern Spice’s Twitter account (@lavern_spicer) still noted that she was the “US house candidate” for Florida’s 24th Congressional District, even though the race for her opponent was scheduled days ago. She tweeted, “Joe Biden is not my president and he will never be my president.”
Actor / comedian Terrence K. Williams (@w_terrance) took a similar stance: “JOE BIDEN IS NOT THE WINNER
It’s not about silly rabbits
President @realDonaldTrump and his team have evidence of election fraud! This will be overturned in court and there will be recounts and audits! Don’t celebrate # bidenharis2020 so fast “
Conservative radio talk show host Buck Sexton (@BuckSexton) called Twitter to give official news outlets a chance to call the race. He tweeted, “This is insane! Twitter is checking the president for a statement by saying,” Official sources may not have called the race when this was tweeted. “Still, @twitter and @jack allow all mainstream media outlets to vote for Joe Biden … WITHOUT OFFICIAL RESULTS !!!”
The official account for Right Side Broadcasting Network (@RSBN) seemed to contradict most mainstream news outlets by posting, “How can the media say Biden won on all of these recounts and legal challenges? If the truth When it comes out, it will be clear that @realDonaldTrump not only won, it won CONVINCINGLY. The media CANNOT decide who is president! Police cars turn lights They see a COUP attempted !! “
Despite calls for a cure, many leftists seem unable to acknowledge the fact that around 70 million American voters supported Trump. This kind of negativity is now why it can be so difficult to heal this divided nation.
One of the unconstructive comments was that of the musician Sebastian Bach (@sebastianbach), who offered the thought: “In the last 4 years I haven’t said the word President with a name after it. Not even. It feels wonderfully beautiful.” the words PRESIDENT BIDEN thank you for #hope for rocknroll! MORE THAN ANYTHING thank you @JoeBiden for restoring my CHILDHOODS “
Molecular biologist Kevn Cavallin (@ gene5335) was among the many users who clearly failed to see that if you add comments on the candidate who lost, his demands for unity are likely to fall short. He tweeted, “Congratulations, President Biden and Vice-President Harris! I can’t say how happy I am to see the end of Trump’s toxic narcissistic reign. Good luck trying to bring this nation together! # JoeBidenKamalaHarris2020”
Perhaps the toughest comment came from the Democratic Coalition Twitter account (@TheDemCoalition), which tweeted, “He survived bankruptcies and was rewarded with a reality TV show and the US Presidency, but is Trump’s gilded series now over. ” #TrumpIsALoser “
When the tweet was welcomed by many, and some suggested “More Bankruptcies” and “Over Time,” the fact remains that the right-wing will remember this negativity. The first step to healing is not to destroy the talk like the choice is a sporting rivalry. The soul of the land depends on healing.
