How to Use Instagram Reels' New Remix Feature

Instagram Reels has a new video editing feature: Remix.

Remix allows users to record a video in response to an existing role – much like TikTok’s popular Duet feature. It’s a new way to work with developers and expand your reach on Instagram Reels.

While this feature is new to Instagram, it’s not a completely new concept. In fact, it’s very similar to TikTok’s duet functionwhere users can film split screen reaction videos.

This new format is great for comedic reactions, dance collaborations, and taking on challenges – and we’re already seeing Instagram developers flex their creative muscles.

How to enable or disable remix for roles

By activating Remix, you open your content to millions of potential collaborations. Think about the possibilities – it’s an incredible way to expand reach and go viral.

When you remix a role, the original video appears on the left and the new role appears on the right. In the lower left corner, Instagram will automatically give the correct credit to the original creator in the new video.

However, if you don’t want to open your video to millions of Instagram users, you can toggle the feature on and off.

There are two ways to do this. You can either change your privacy settings (for all roles) or after you have approved each individual role.

How to enable or disable Remix in Instagram Settings

Step 1: Go to your Instagram settings and select “Privacy”. Then tap on “Roles”.
