TIPS ON PREPARING YOUR DRIVEWAY TO SEALCOATING

Sealcoating prepares asphalt driveways for extreme weather conditions. It also protects them from the harmful effects of car pollutants, such as dripping oils. Sealcoating decreases the risk of driveway damage, including cracks, brittleness, and potholes. Sealcoating protects your driveway and prevents damage from occurring. It can also save you time and money, which could be used to pay for more frequent repairs. These tips will ensure your driveway looks clean and shiny after sealing it.

Assess your driving style

A preliminary assessment will reveal signs of deterioration such as cracks or oil stains. You want to make sure that any existing damage to your driveway is properly identified and marked so that it doesn't get missed during the sealing process.

It doesn't need sealcoating if it was installed in the last two years, even if there are visible signs of wear and tear.

CHECK THE FORECAST

If you are concerned about rain, snow, or any other adverse weather conditions, it is best to reschedule your appointment for sealcoating. You should also consider the temperature. Asphalt that is more than 50 degrees Fahrenheit can't be sealed with a sealcoat. If you don't follow these guidelines, your driveway could be damaged or not sealed properly.

CLEAR AND PREPARE THE AREA

It is important to prepare your driveway for sealing. You must remove all dirt and debris from the asphalt surface. This includes leaves, loose pebbles, and larger objects like cars, bikes, garbage cans, and toys. You should wash any chalk and fertilizers off the asphalt. The sealer will not stick to a dirty driveway so this is essential. Use sprinklers to sealcoat your driveway. Turn them off for at least a day before sealing and then turn them off again for at least a day.

It is important to not schedule any deliveries. Your front door should not touch the driveway. You can schedule your deliveries, or make arrangements for a different drop-off point.

Pets and children should be kept away from the surface during application and drying. If your dogs need to be walked, you can allow them to run around the yard or use another exit.

PRIME THE ASPHALT

Preparing your driveway for sealing is another tip. Prime your driveway to get rid of oil stains. This will improve the seal coat's effectiveness. You can use a soap nozzle attached to a power washer (or a garden hose) to clean the driveway. Next, scrub the drive using a stiff-bristled push brush. Use a spray of water to remove any soap residue and then let dry the driveway before applying primer.
